Gruppo Peroni Race launches Formula Italia

Following the launch of the Historic Cup Formula 3, Gruppo Peroni Race in collaboration with PNK Motorsport presents a key addition in the field of open-wheel racing for the 2022 season. The Formula Italia project is proposed as a first step for young people aged 16 and over towards the subsequent single-seater categories, but also as a further opportunity for Under 25 and 35 drivers, with the possibility of coming to grips with the most prestigious Italian tracks.

The championship, deriving from Formula Abarth, is reserved for Formula 4 cars with Tatuus chassis until 2021 and Abarth engine until 2021 (414 tf 1400cc fire turbo). One of the advantages of the series also resides in the financial downsizing of a program with national and international relevance and a prime-level technical package.

Formula Italia’s technical regulations will also be identical to that of the past and do not foresee any changes for the next three years.

CALENDAR AND FORMAT- The season will be held across a total of six rounds in the circuits of Monza, Misano (2 events), Mugello (2 events) and Vallelunga.

The format includes two free practice sessions of 30 minutes, double races of 25 minutes each (broadcast live on TV) with two qualifying sessions of 15 minutes each. Three collective tests will also be organized during the year, the dates of which will be communicated with the formalization of the 2022 calendar.

REQUIREMENTS AND STANDINGS - Italian and foreign drivers in possession of a national and international C license are allowed from the age of 16. In addition to the overall Formula Italia standings, separate classifications and awarding ceremonies are provided for Under 18, Under 25, Under 35, the Ladies’ Championship and the Team’s Championship.

FURTHER TECHNICAL DETAILS- Rims: OZ 8x13 ant. OZ 10x13 post., Slick and Rain tyres from a single tyre supplier (TBA)

Sergio Peroni, Founder of Gruppo Peroni Race

“2022 will be a special year for our Group: it will mark a return in full style in the world of single-seaters from the Historic F3s to this great new addition that Formula Italia will stand for. The project stems from the desire to continue the competitive life of a car like the F4, which in recent years has proven to have exceptional chassis, engine and safety qualities, to the extent that it has become widespread all over the world. Now that the advanced chassis step of the 2022 model releases an incredible number of cars on the market until 2021, it will be an opportunity for teams and drivers to invest in a championship that will aim to open up to young and older customers, with certain rules and reduced costs. We know how difficult it is to tackle a great challenge, but as we have shown over the past forty years, we always manage to achieve our goals with seriousness and rigor”.
